Human Rights Training Session

Sustainability includes Human Rights as well.  We attended a Human Rights training conducted by some senior people, including the Mark Hodge, Director of the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights, Gerald Pachould, the Special Advisor to the United Nations Special Representative on Business and Human Rights, and Bill Anderson, Adidas Group Head of Environment and Social Affairs Asia Pacific.

It’s easy enough to come up with a Human Rights Policy that would look good framed on the wall.  The real challenge is to figure out how to embed Human Rights (and Environment) into our core business processes.

And how do we get buy-in from senior management?  The business case is to understand that respect for Human Rights leads to the protection of the company’s reputation – if you protect rights, you protect reputation.  Turn senior management’s heads so that they see it from a risk perspective, and you’ve got your foot in the door.
